Slick UI: Promising Look At An Android Home Screen Replacement App

by Rob Jackson on October 25th, 2010

Not everyone likes the same look and feel to their phones and Android’s ability to offer customization is one of its greatest assets. From taking vanilla Android and adding widgets and shortcuts to starting with HTC Sense and packing different Scenes full of sexiness, there isn’t a lack of options. And more options are popping up in Android Market every day… let’s hope one of those options is soon Slick UI.

This is looking to be a very beautiful UI replacement for your Android phone.

Starting with the 20x extensive angle zoom on the new Canon Powershot SX20is and heading from there it's simple to comprehend why the Canon SX20is is a best offering electronic dslr camera.

With characteristics like a 20x extensive angle optical zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent of 28-560mm zoom, Wise Auto Image Mode, Rapid and quiet zoom lens and 720p High Definition Movie and this electronic digital camera is winner proper out of the box.

Now this is looking like it's going to be a great point and shoot for those not ready to take the leap to SLR.

Bind It

Hey all. This is just going to be a quick post about making learning a little easier. I have been doing something to my books lately that I think some people might find a little sacrilege. I’ve been cutting the binding off and adding a spiral binding to the book.  Binding_0001

Photography under threat: The shooting party’s over - Times Online

Photography under threat: The shooting party’s over

Did you hear the one about the mother banned from taking a snapshot of her baby in the pool? Or the student prevented from photographing Tower Bridge at sunset? Be warned. The authorities now have the power to confiscate your camera — or even arrest you — for daring to take a picture in public

This is truly getting out of hand. Thanks to a few morons out there the rest of us have to suffer. Please stop the paranoia. Photography is NOT a crime. I am so tired of people reading the news about one person who did something bad and then taking that news story and creating a blanket statement and applying it to everyone. Everyone is not one guy and on guy is not everyone.

Not every photographer is a sick pervert. I would hazard a guess to say the "pervert" falls in a less than one percent of one percent of one percent of the photographers out there. People like to have memories of the places they've been or the events in their lives. Get over yourselves and come out of your cages and see the real world. Not the world that is presented on the evening news every night and you'll see that us Photographers are just normal people just trying to capture the moment when the light is perfect and mood is right. Hey, here's a thought. While your out grab a camera and capture some memories for yourselves. It might just make you happy. God Forbid.

STOP Censoring Your Vision | LIGHTING ESSENTIALS For Photographers

(A rant about self censoring your work)

Have you ever stopped yourself from taking a photograph? And then thought later that “I should have taken that shot…” The excuses and reasons abound for not taking a photograph that presents itself to you. Not the right time Not the right lens. Not exactly what I had in mind. Not as good as that shot I saw by that photographer I like so much. Not a photograph in my style. Can’t use it in my portfolio.

I have heard them all. And I have said all of them to myself earlier in my career. And they seem on the surface to be somewhat valid, if not a little lame. But I also think that there is a certain amount of fear associated with the reasons and excuses stated above. A fear that we bring to our work through years and years of self-censorship. A fear of failing, or not measuring up. A fear that somehow taking a photo that will not go in your portfolio is wasted, or silly… there are so many fears disguised as reasons. Reasons are fine, irrational fears are not.

Just an incredible read. Truly amazing and inspirational.

Genuine Fractals Review : John Kivus

Genuine Fractals Review

As I’ve mentioned before, all the pictures on my site are shot with my Nikon P6000. Though it’s slightly better than most point and shoot cameras, it does not have the same size sensor as even most entry level DSLRs. This causes a couple of problems, including some issues with noise at ISO 800 or above and the lack of capability to add longer lenses to increase zoom capabilities. In order to compensate for the lack of zoom, I normally end up cropping my pictures to get the desired framing that I would have wanted from a zoom lens. Cropping an image in this manner, however, can mean the resulting image files are not big enough for larger prints. This is where Genuine Fractals comes in. Genuine Fractals, from onOne Software, is an image re-sizing and enlargement program (that recently got some coverage on CSI:NY) that I now use on nearly all of my photos before I sent them off to WHCC for printing.

Thanks John for this review of a product I really had no idea what it could be used for. I now see the need for it. I've used other onOne software titles and they are amazing also.
